Introduction

Planet for Sale!  Could you sell a planet?  Your job will be to try to sell a planet in one week.  If you succeed you will make a lot of money!  But it won't be easy, there are 7 other planets out there to buy.  How will you make people want to buy yours?

Task

You work for a realtor company. (A business that sells homes and properties.)   Your company is selling one of the 8 planets and you are in charge of selling that planet.  If you sell your planet in one week you will be able to keep all the money. In order to sell your planet you will need to research your planet, make a poster to advertise your planet, and list pros and cons of living on this planet.  You will be working with a partner on this project.

Process

1.  Speak to the head realtor (your teacher) to find out who's your partner.

2.  Once you and your partner are together and ready to work the head realtor will give you the planet you are going to try to sell.

3. Before you and your partner can create a poster you will have to collect data on your planet.  Each of you will have to do separate research on your planet. You will use data sheets to collect the data. The partner with the birthday closest to today's date will be Partner 1 and the other will be Partner 2.  Click on Data Collection Sheets below and Print them out.

Date Collection Sheets   Click Here   Partner 1          Partner 2

4.  Look carefully at your questions on the data sheet before you start your research.  To do your research, click on the name of your planet listed below.

5. Next, click on one of the Web Site links for your planet. Read the information and  jot notes under the correct headings.

6. When you have finished reading the first Web Site, view another Web site link for your planet. Read the information and decide if there is any new information that should be added to your data sheet.

7. After both partners are finished with collecting data you and your partner should compare your information.

8.  Print out a check list to be sure you  and your partner have included everything in your research.  Analyze information and decide what information should be included on your poster.  Remember you want to design a poster that will make people want to buy YOUR PLANET!

9.  Design your poster. Make sure you include a picture of your planet, interest facts and important information about your planet. Also, include how much money you are selling your planet for.

10.  Next, you and your partner will need to make a Venn Diagram to compare the pros and cons of humans living on your planet.  After making lists of  pros and cons ask the head realtor for a piece of posterboard to construct your Venn Diagram.

11.  When you and your partner are finished hand in your poster, Venn Diagram, and collection data sheets.

Conclusion

During your WebQuest, you have learned many facts about your planet, yet there is much more to learn about our Solar System. The vastness of space has given us many challenges and questions.  Could humans really live on another planet?  What would humans have to do to make a planet "livable"? Make a list of planets you would like to explore.  Why is it important for us to explore the solar system?  These are just a few of many questions for you to explore and research.  Good luck in your futures quests.
