Library Policy:

The Library program schedule and physical facility has been organized to accommodate several different activities at the same time.  It is the goal of the library to be as accessible and accommodating as possible.  The major goal is accessibility to staff and students needing resources and information which meets learning objectives.  Furthermore, the library is available as a resource for leisure reading.

Use of the library and it's facilities are available before and after school with a pass signed by the librarian.

Closing the library- the librarian will announce when the library will be closed through the daily bulletin and morning announcements:

  1. When I.E.P. meetings are scheduled     

  2. During pep rallies and assembly programs

  3. When library is full due to class scheduling.
     

Procedures:

  1. General collection circulates for two weeks.  Longer check outs may be arranged by teachers.

  2. Interlibrary loan books circulate for one month them must be returned to the lending library; renewals must be approved by lending library.

  3. Renewals are permitted if check out privileges have not been lost.

  4. All students will check out material at the main desk.  Names and student numbers will be checked.

  5. Overdue fines are $.25 per day.  Book fines are considered school obligations, and must be paid.  The same is true for lost and damaged books.  At the end of each marking period, students owing overdue books and monies to the library will be turned into the main office.  Diplomas will not be issued to students owing overdue books and monies.  Records will be kept for the duration of a student's attendance.

  6. Students who have not returned books will lose check out privileges, fined and turned into the main office.

  7. Overdue notices will be sent out once every two weeks.

General Library Use Rules:

  1. Talking is not permitted in the library.  Students will come to the library to work individually or read independently.  Students wishing to work on group projects in the library will need the librarians approval.

  2. No food or drink is permitted in the library at any time.

  3. There will be no sitting on the desks/tables.  Students will sit on the chairs and keep all four legs of the chair on the floor at all times.

Withdrawal of Library Privileges:

  • The librarian will handle discipline in the library (with the assistance of the classroom teacher, if present).

    • First Offense- a warning will be issued and student will be returned to class or study hall.

    • Second Offense-student's library privileges will be suspended for remainder of marking period.

    • Third Offense- student will receive a disciplinary conduct report and sent to the office.
       

  • Study Hall and classroom teachers are requested to keep a record of suspended students.  These students should not be sent to the library.  Suspended students will be returned to class or study hall if sent to the library while suspended from the library.
