Facts and QuestionsJob Shadowing

What is job shadowing?

Job shadowing placements allow students a real-life experience in the employment field which they intend to pursue.  Based on the completion of the student application form, the job shadowing coordinator will attempt to place the student with a person or within a business in his or her chosen career path.  Unfortunately, not all students can be placed due to career choice or availability of employment choice.

Are you interested in the medical field?

Who can job shadow?

Although most students who shadow are currently in their junior or senior year, freshmen and sophomores may also be permitted.  Employers may also have placed restrictions on the age of the potential shadower. Students who are interested in shadowing must print out, complete the proper paperwork, and submit it to Mrs. Hassinger in Room 120A.

When can I job shadow?

Students who request a job shadowing placement are generally scheduled during a school day.  Job shadowing placements will be made between October 1st and March 15th of each school year.

What job shadowing paperwork needs to be submitted?

Download and print a copy of the Student Application/Parental Consent Form, complete it, and return it in person to Mrs. Hassinger's office in Room 120A.  Once the paperwork has been submitted, the search will begin for a placement.  Once a placement has been located, the student will receive additional paperwork from his or her English teacher.  The paperwork must be filled out and returned to Mrs. Hassinger no later than the date indicated on the forms.  If the forms are not signed and returned by the indicated date, the job shadowing placement will be cancelled and not rescheduled.

What about transportation?

When parents sign the consent form, they are indicating that they will be sure that the student has transportation to and from the job shadowing placement.  If the student can drive, he or she is permitted to do so or the parent(s) can drop him or her off.

What if I change my mind?

If for any reason the student cannot follow through with his/her job shadowing responsibility, he or she must WITHOUT EXCEPTION contact Mrs. Hassinger in person or via the telephone so that the placement can be cancelled.  The student must remember that the person/business he or she has been assigned to has scheduled their day around the presence of the student.  If the student does not arrive for the placement as scheduled, disciplinary action will be taken and any future request to job shadow will be denied.

Can I make arrangements to job shadow on my own?

Yes - however, approval must still be obtained.  The student should see Mrs. Hassinger in Room 120A to receive the proper paperwork and gain permission at least two weeks in advance of the assignment.
