Description: Students will reinforce knowledge of the
elements and principles of music. They will apply this knowledge to
analysis of various musical styles from different time periods,
including opera, jazz, and 20th century music. They will
analyze, compare, and contrast these styles. Students will also
learn to compose, arrange, perform, and improvise music of varying
styles.
These skills will not only provide musical knowledge and
understanding but also be a source and reinforcement of critical
thinking and analysis, cultural, creative writing, scientific, and
mathematical skills used in other core subjects.
Required Time: One year
Course Credit: ½ credit per year
