Nutrition Explorations: Kids Nutrition/Food Guide Pyramid
This site includes an
Interactive Pyramid where students can click on a food group within the
pyramid to find out more information about that particular food group.
This site has ten different interactive activities for kids to use their
nutrition knowledge and to learn more about nutrition. Students can
track their meals through a nutrition tracker link, make a virtual
milkshake, and feed a monster muncher the correct foods. This site
consists of a Kid’s Panel, which offers information and advice from real
kids’ individual experiences about nutrition. It also offers an
opportunity for kids to become a member of this panel. Recipes,
contests and fun links offer a variety of information for teachers and
students who are studying nutrition. This site is geared toward
elementary students.

Internet Scavenger Hunts: Education World: The Educators Best
Friend:
This site offers scavenger hunts to educators
organized by months of the year. There is also a link for “Anytime
Scavenger Hunts.” This is where I found a scavenger hunt for the
Olympic Games of 2004. I will be very interested in using this site for
the 2008 Olympics and hope they update the scavenger hunt. This site
also offers learning games, fact monster activities to improve literacy
skills, writing activities, science lessons, tech lessons of the week,
teacher lesson plans, geography activities, book report forms, Reader’s
Theatre scripts, math links and a variety of other resources especially
for educators. Many of the activities have a PDF file and are easy to
access. This is a great site! This site has activities at all grade
levels.

KidHealth For Kids:
This site can and should be used in the classroom with your
students. It offers interactive games, a scavenger hunt, and a Kid’s
Talk section where the students have an opportunity to ask their own
questions and get them answered. There is a multitude of subject matter
involving healthy living for kids. A few things it includes are health
problems grown-ups have, health problems kids have, and a glossary.
You can sign up for KidsHealth express mail to receive activities
weekly. This site is geared toward elementary students

The Word Play Website:
This site offers a variety of quirks, and oddities
of the English language called word play. Students can play boggle
online and hang man. This site offers an online wordplay book store. It
includes a funny sign gallery, loads of word puzzles, games, fun facts
and amazing lists. This site is mainly for educators, yet it does offer
interactive games for kids to play. This is a great site for
English/Language Arts teachers at all levels.

Poetry As We See It:
This site is a great resource for language arts
teachers who teach figurative language. It gives the definition of and
examples of many different types of figurative language. It is a site
that could be used in a computer lab with students. It offers a
practice link for the students to identify a variety of figurative
languages. This is an interactive web site where the students learn
about a type of figurative language and then practice using it. This
site is geared toward middle school students.

Dog Breeds:
This site is a great resource for research reports
I do in my classroom on dog breeds. It is a virtual encyclopedia of dog
breed information. It profiles each breed, gives pictures, offers new
articles, and links to other sites, which offers more information to my
students. This site is geared toward middle school students.

Authors! Authors!
This site offers an alphabetical and geographical
directory of children’s authors and illustrators. It also offers
writing tips from children’s authors. It has multiple listing links for
children’s books. It would be a great resource for a “Meet the Author”
research report I do in Language Arts class. This site includes a lot
of links geared toward becoming a better writer. This site is geared
toward elementary students.
8. Funny Poetry for Children:
This site offers teachers a variety of poems. Yucky poems,
comic strip poems, animated poems and many more. There are links
for poetry theatre, poetry to songs, and a poetry class where the
students learn how to write limericks, nursery rhymes, and many more.
Great site for elementary age kids and teachers!
9. Kids Konnect Math Site:
This site offers a variety of sites related to elementary math
skills. It features sites from different states, holidays, and
different subject areas involving mathematical problems. If you
are looking for a site with a multitude of resources, this is the site
for you!
10. Your Body's Systems:
This site offers a variety of informational resources for the
classroom teacher. This link takes you to the science page and
gives detailed descriptions of the human body systems geared toward
upper elementary grades. The home page takes you to FactMonster
where you will find a map of the United States offering different links
to different subjects such as people, sports, math and money, games and
quizzes and a homework center. Great resource for teachers.
