Aprender  (to learn about) Grading Practices

I grade on a point system, so the idea is that students should strive to accumulate as many points as possible on each given project, assignment, oral participation, quiz, essay, etc.

  • Oral participation, group dramas, etc. are usually worth 5 pts., but we do them often, so those points add up
  • Homework can range from 5 to 15 pts.
  • Quizzes are usually 25 pts.
  • Essays and major tests are 50 pts.

Poorly done homework assignments may be "resubmitted," but in order to do so, there are certain requirements that must be met. Please see me for details.

I keep my Gradebook up to date on Intergrade Pro as well as in an actual, tangible, made-of-paper, on-my-desk gradebook. Due to the advent of Parent Connect, it is relatively sinple and painless to find out one's grade at any given point.

  • I strive to create a positive "user-friendly" learning environment so students feel comfortable enough to TRY. No one is expecting all efforts to wonderfully perfect all the time. That's a wonderful goal, but it is the EFFORT in trying to achieve that goal that consistently provides the expected results.
