CONCERT CHOIR

MISS FENSTERBUSH-DIRECTOR

REHEARSAL-DAYS 2, 4, 6 PERIOD 7

 

Goals and Objectives

  1. To perform sacred and secular choral music with understanding and artistry.
  2. To develop the individual student’s vocal technique through the choral medium.
  3. To increase the individual student’s musical skill in sight-reading and aural awareness.
  4. To provide choral music experiences for all students.
  5. To prepare future music students of choral music with procedures in the practice and presentation of choral art.

Grading System

50% of your grade is accomplished in lessons which are divided into:

1.      25%=lesson attendance

2.      25%=knowledge of music

25% of your grade is based on rehearsal etiquette

1.  Good participation

2.  Marking music with a pencil

3.  Exhibiting a positive attitude and contribution to the ensemble

4.  Exhibiting and maintaining good vocal practices i.e. not chewing gum, using good posture, being prepared and punctual for rehearsal,  never talking during rehearsal, being helpful to new members, aiding in the recruitment of new members

25% of your grade is understanding of basics of music theory and voice

25% of your grade in the second and fourth marking period is concert attendance.

Concert Attire

Ladies

      Dresses or skirts and blouses, dress shoes

Gentlemen

      Dress slacks, dress shirt, coat and tie, dress shoes

No flip-flops, sneakers or crocs.

Clothing made of jean material is not considered appropriate dress.

Attire must follow MCSD Policy as approved by the Mifflin County School Board on June 29, 2006.

Items not to be worn and deemed as inappropriate are:

1.      Tank tops/muscle shirts.

2.      Spaghetti straps/halter/mesh tops/strapless

3.      Bare midriffs are not permitted.  This is defined to mean no skin showing between the bottom of the shirt and top of the pants area.

4.      Underclothing may not be exposed.

5.      See-through blouses or shirts.

6.      Hats, caps, scarves or headbands on the head in the building at any time.

7.      Logos or sayings on clothing may not promote alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gang/cult behavior, offensive language, or inappropriate behavior, not cause distraction from the educational process.  This also includes pins and buttons.

8.      Footwear must be worn at all times.

9.      Both shoulders need to be covered at all times.

10.  If shorts or skirts are worn, they can be no shorter than halfway between the knees and waistline.

Formal/semi-formal dresses must be covered to adhere to the above policy.

 

CONCERT DATES

·         Holiday Choral Concert: Sunday, December 13, 2009 3:00 p.m.

·         Spring Choral Concert: Sunday, May 23, 2010 3:00 p.m.

 

            CONCERT ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY AND 25% OF YOUR GRADE.

CHORALIERS

 

This is a group selected through a vocal audition and open to Concert Choir members in grades 10-12.  A student must be enrolled in Concert Choir for one year prior to auditioning. Once selected for Choraliers, students must be enrolled in Concert Choir in the current school year. These students are ambassadors of L.A.H.S. and rehearsal is determined upon the schedule of each student. This group sings throughout the community and is very busy in December and the spring of the year. Like any extra curricular activity, students must maintain academic eligibility in order to remain active in the ensemble.

Female attire with robes

            Skirt and dress length may NOT be longer than your robe.  BLACK dress shoes must be worn with robes.
